Paint first.
ask questions later.

Rickard Linder, a Painter, Visual Designer, and chronic overthinker about both.

Rickard Linder

Born in Sweden, based in Luxembourg for over fifteen years — with a stretch in the United States somewhere in between. That kind of movement tends to leave a mark, and it shows up in the work.

The paintings start with the face. Not portraiture exactly, but the human feature as a problem worth solving — how much can you abstract before recognition breaks down, how little can you give and still have presence. It’s a question that doesn’t resolve, which is probably why I keep painting.

A Bachelor of Illustration gave the practice a framework, but the drawing started long before that and hasn’t stopped since. Exhibitions have been a regular part of the work since 1998 — at least once a year, usually more.

The design work runs alongside the painting. Same eye, different materials. I’ve never thought of them as separate things.
